It is easy to tell by Bobby Rowe's career statistics that he must have been a great defenceman. Playing 286 games as a professional player but scoring only 95 lifetime goals, teams obviously wanted him for his other skills – defence.

The O'Brien's recognized his talent and signed Rowe to his first professional hockey team, the Renfrew Millionaires, beginning a career that would last 16 years. He played for two years with the Millionaires, both as a defenceman and as a forward.

Again, like many of his other teammates, Rowe left for the new west coast hockey league, the PCHL, when it was established in 1911. He would stay there for the remainder of his career, playing on a number of teams, including five championship teams and winning a Stanley Cup.

The large defenceman retired in 1926, but has yet to be named to the Hockey Hall of Fame.
